Free Christmas Dinner Tradition Carries On!

Added Feb 25, 2025

In 2004, EWG Middle School decided to apply to own its cafeteria, sharing the profits within the school and ensuring its students had a healthy meal. Today, 20 years later, the cafeteria is still running strong, thanks to the commitment of Maureen Jones (Manager) and her staff, Tish Johnson and Barb Hudson.

It was Maureen’s vision to be able to provide a “Free” turkey dinner to the students and so the first and what would become, an annual event took place.

Maureen knew that many students might not have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner over Christmas and with some help from her “elves,” the tradition has continued.

This year marked the 19th anniversary of the event, only missing one year in the past 20, with many sponsors and volunteers to thank. This would not be possible without the support from the community, business, and the EWG Food Services Board of Directors.

As we close 2024’ we would like to wish Maureen a happy retirement and promise to keep her tradition going and we want to thank the Cartier Coop, Foodland, Moncton Area Milk Producers, Advance Savings and Branch Manager, Donna Jones, along with Southeastern Mutual and all our dedicated volunteers.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
